This is ELC*, a social networking and groupworking site for the University of Wales, Newport..
We are currently trying this out to see if would be a useful groupworking and social tool. It is powered by software called Elgg, and in someways is similar to sites such as Facebook - you can upload your profile, create a blog, store files, link to your friends and so. The big difference is that you have a lot of control over who can see things, so you can work private, or share things with just your friends, colleagues or tutors.
You can create groups, or communities, and each group can have it's own profile, members, blog, comments wall and file storage area. We think the communities will be create for working together as groups, although you are welcome to use the for fun as well!
*In case you were wondering why this site is called Elc, it is based on software called Elgg, which is Scandinavian for Moose. Elc is the Welsh word for Moose, and also stands for E-Learning Community!
